The Colombian forward had been linked to United all summer but has now agreed a loan deal to link up with his former manager in Germany.
Reported Manchester United target James Rodriguez has completed a switch to German giants Bayern Munich on a two-year loan deal with the option to buy.
The Colombian had been linked with other top EPL asides United, with Chelsea and Liverpool reportedly interested in acquiring his services.
United never appeared genuinely interested in the talented forward, despite all the media speculation.
Regardless, any interest from United would have likely failed in light of the recent Morata situation.
The presence of Mata, Mkhitaryan, Andreas Pereira and Pogba – to a lesser extent – mean the Red Devils are well-stocked in the Colombian’s preferred no.10 position.
Woodward’s focus will be on securing an orthodox winger – with Perisic looking likeliest. None of the aforementioned players – plus Lingard or Martial – is considered a genuine wideman.
The only wingers in the squad, Young and Valencia are now more likely to feature in defense than in attack.
Despite the various options United have available for the no. 10 position, Rodriguez would arguably have be an upgrade.
The only consolation is he has not moved to a rival EPL club where his brilliance could directly impact United’s pursuit for domestic honours.
